TIME - World's Greatest Places 2026 - On Board expeditions

On Board named in TIME’s World’s Greatest Places 2026

On Board, one of Tasmania’s newest luxury wilderness experiences, has been recognised on the global stage, featured in TIME’s annual list of the World’s Greatest Places for 2026.

TIME's list celebrates 100 extraordinary destinations offering new and meaningful ways to experience the world — and this year, Tasmania’s remote southwest stands among them.

To compile the list, TIME solicited nominations from its international network of correspondents and contributors, alongside submissions through an application process. Nominees spanned hotels, cruises, restaurants, attractions, museums and parks, with an emphasis on those offering new and compelling travel experiences.

TIME’s write‑up celebrates the rare access and immersive wilderness experience On Board, a proud member of Luxury Lodges of Australia, offers in the UNESCO Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. As TIME describes, “If you want to breathe some of the purest air on Earth—in a place with no access roads, towns, or hotels—head to Tasmania’s Southwest National Park for a new two-night Port Davey Highlights cruise from On Board, a family-run expedition outfit.”

The article highlights the dramatic landscapes and the ease with which travellers can now experience one of the planet’s most remote protected areas: “This compact itinerary makes it possible to experience Port Davey’s dramatic headlands, deserted beaches, and pristine waterways on a tight schedule.”

TIME also showcases the signature elements that define the On Board experience: “The journey begins in Hobart with a 40-minute seaplane flight above cinematic wilderness… where guests board Odalisque III, a 12-passenger expedition vessel.” Guests explore Huon pine-lined rivers, deserted Southern Ocean beaches and ancient rock formations shaped by wind and time. Back on board, “guests retreat to the catamaran’s cushy lounge to snack on freshly baked raspberry-jam-and-vanilla-cream biscuits and sip Tassie wines and whiskies, before digging into chef-prepared feasts.”

“Southwest Tasmania is one of the last truly wild places on Earth, and our mission has always been to help people experience it with care and respect. TIME’s recognition shines a light on the significance of this landscape and the passionate Tasmanians who bring these journeys to life. We’re thrilled to see Port Davey acknowledged among the world’s greatest places.” Says Alice van der Woude, Director, Marketing & Experience at On Board.

On Board’s Port Davey Highlights expedition was one of only four Australian inclusions on this year’s list.
